Grant Barnes

Director / Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer
Grant started his career as a chartered surveyor in London in the late 1990s. Before launching Barnes & Barnes, he worked with CBRE, Bradford & Bingley bank, Countrywide and Allsop, the national property auctions consultancy. Besides his surveying qualifications, and a degree in economics, Grant also has a postgraduate diploma in historic building conservation. Grant has undertaken legal experience training and been successful in achieving an Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence (APAEWE).
Simon Barnes

Simon moved into the property sector following a number of years as an officer in the British Army. On leaving the army he qualified as a surveyor and has been assessing and valuing residential and commercial properties in London since 2010.
Stuart Marks

Chartered Surveyor & Registered Valuer
Stuart is an MRICS Surveyor with over 30 years’ experience in residential property development and appraisal. He has worked extensively in London and brings a strong practical understanding of the building process, residential refurbishment, maintenance and building defects. His background includes carrying out building surveys, valuations and development appraisals, preparing feasibility studies, and managing residential refurbishment and development projects through to completion. He has extensive experience working with lenders, investors, contractors and other stakeholders, and provides clear, practical and commercially informed advice on residential property.
Edward Ellis

Surveyor and Registered Valuer
Edward Ellis is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer with over 15 years’ experience providing residential surveys and valuations across London and the South East. He specialises in Level 2 and Level 3 Surveys, Red Book valuations, lease extension and enfranchisement work, and residential property advice for private clients. Having held Director-level positions within leading surveying firms, he brings extensive technical expertise, strong quality-control standards and a practical, client-focused approach to every instruction. His experience includes valuations for tax, matrimonial and leasehold matters, expert witness instructions, secured lending work, and the assessment of high-value and complex residential properties.
Jack Newport

Surveyor and Valuer
Jack is a dedicated and experienced professional with a strong background in construction engineering and management. Following a role as Site Manager for a leading construction and infrastructure company, where he gained chartership status as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), he transitioned to the role of Planning Manager, before pursuing a career in surveying and valuation. As an Associate of RICS, Jack is able to undertake surveys and valuations and is bound by the high standards of RICS.
Mike Royall

Chartered Civil / Structural Engineer
Mike has more than 40 years’ experience in the structural design of buildings, and the inspection, investigation and reporting of structural defects. He has completed thousands of building surveys and is a specialist in structural defects to domestic properties in particular. Mike is also party wall surveyor (Member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors) and has given evidence as an expert witness in court. Mike has also developed a UK-wide network for chartered engineers and surveyors and organised a number of conferences to support and raise standards in the sector.
Laraine Martin
Customer Support
Laraine is one of our vital customer support team, who will help you decide which service is right for you and get your service booked quickly. She’ll liaise with you, the surveyor, and any third parties such as estate agents to ensure the survey is completed and your report is with you as quickly as possible.
Frances Disson
Customer Support
Frances is one of our customer support team. With many years of experience in the surveying industry, she’ll help you to understand our different services and which is the best for you. She’s also well-placed to guide you through the process from booking to receiving your report, answering any questions you may have along the way.
Sophie Ball
Customer Support
Sophie is an experienced survey administrator with a strong background in the surveying industry. As one of our Customer Support team, Sophie supports the surveyors with quotes, booking surveys, report production, and administration.
Claire Best
Customer Communications
As well as managing our website, Claire looks after the survey process making sure it’s the best experience for our customers. She is also responsible for ongoing communications with our customers after they have received their surveys and reports.
